SGX (Jan - Jun 2025) Spring Internship Programme

FCD Internship Programme

1) Finance, CPU and Tax

Brief Overview:

SGX Finance comprises various teams including Financial Reporting and Tax (FRT) and CFO Unit Operations and Controls (COC). 

FRT is responsible for (i) SGX Group’s financial reporting, accounting, and advisory matters, and (ii) all local and overseas tax matters of SGX Group, including corporate tax, withholding tax, GST/VAT, FATCA/ CRS. 

COC is responsible for (i) overseeing the risk and controls issues in CFO Unit, including the running of Risk and Control Self-Assessment program and governance of vendor managed services, (ii) finance operations such as billing, receipts from customers and procure to pay activities, and (iii) treasury support on banking, investments, and funding matters.  
 

Learning Objectives:

The selected intern will gain multi-disciplinary exposure within Finance. 

Key learnings include: 

  • In-depth financial analysis skills, including use of available generative AI tools
  • Understanding and appreciation of Finance function, including respective policies, processes, and control activities
  • Exposure to SAP enterprise system and other generative AI tools, including dashboarding for analysis

 

Job Description:

As a Finance intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to Finance team. Responsibilities include:

  • Month-end financial closing for SGX Group 
  • Monthly analysis of financial performance and key metrics of SGX Group
  • Support finance and treasury operations
  • Review of key controls in CFO Unit in support of Control Self-Assessment and vendor due diligence
  • Support digitalisation of existing workstream process using available generative AI tools
  • Preparation of tax related regulatory submission and compliance work 

 

Knowledge and Skills requirements:

To meet these objectives, you should:

  • Be proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint (required) 
  • Basic accounting knowledge 
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Be detailed oriented, meticulous and have an analytical mindset
  • Have a strong aptitude for learning 

2) Investor Relations

Brief Overview:

We drive purposeful conversations among business, finance and internal stakeholders. Building on our understanding of business intelligence and financial metrics, we aim to provide relevant insights to enable our internal stakeholders to make business decisions and identify opportunities for business initiatives. 


Learning Objectives:

This internship is a unique opportunity to learn to work with cross functional teams and facilitate effective communication to all stakeholders. The selected intern would aid in annual budget and 3-year planning, financial analysis and process improvements/ automation.  The intern would also gain insights on the key drivers of the exchange business.

 

Job Description:

  • Assess business initiatives/ enquiries to understand business goals and requirements for provision of relevant financial information
  • Analyse current processes and propose automation of excel-based spreadsheets and dashboards for enhanced efficiency
  • Coordinate and assist on Business Unit’s annual budget and 3-year planning
  • Ensure accuracy in monthly revenue and expenses reporting, analysis and forecasting

 

Knowledge and Skills requirements:

  • Major in Accounting or Finance
  • Programming languages: Excel Macro and SQL are essential to help in the automation of data extraction and consolidation.
  • Strong analytical skills/ Ability to map and analyze business processes
  • Able to work independently

3) Enterprise Financial Planning

Brief Overview:

Responsible for financial planning and analysis, cost management and control.


Learning Objectives:

The selected intern would aid in annual budget and 3-year planning, financial analysis and process improvements/ automation.  The intern would also gain insights on the key drivers of the exchange business

 

Job Description:

  • To assist in annual budget and 3-year planning
  • To assist in monthly revenue and expenses reporting, analysis and forecasting
  • To assist in automation of excel-based spreadsheets and dashboards for enhanced efficiency

4) Corporate Development

Brief Overview:

The Corporate Development team plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization's strategic direction and growth initiatives. Their primary responsibilities include:

Strategic Planning: Collaborating with senior leadership to develop SGX's corporate strategic plan, encompassing both organic growth and potential mergers and acquisitions. 

Industry Analysis: Assessing industry trends and competitive landscapes to identify opportunities and challenges, ensuring SGX remains agile and responsive to market dynamics. 

Financial Assessment: Evaluating business initiatives by providing relevant financial information and analysis, supporting informed decision-making processes. 

Through these functions, the Corporate Development team ensures SGX's sustained growth and alignment with its long-term strategic objectives.


Learning Objectives:

We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our Corporate Development team for a 6-month professional attachment. This role offers hands-on exposure to strategic projects, investment research, and market analysis. The ideal candidate will support the team in conducting desk research, preparing presentations, and analyzing financial and industry data to drive key corporate initiatives.
The intern can gain first-hand experience in corporate strategy, M&A, and market analysis within a leading financial institution. Exposure to high-impact projects that influence SGX’s long-term growth and development. Mentorship and learning opportunities from senior professionals in corporate development.
 

Job Description:

 

1.    Market & industry research

  • Conduct research on industry trends, competitive landscape, and financial markets
  • Summarize key findings and provide insights to support strategic decision-making

 

2.    Financial & strategic analysis

  • Assist in financial modeling, data analysis, and benchmarking exercises
  • Support the evaluation of investment opportunities and corporate initiatives

 

3.    M&A and due diligence support

  • Conduct preliminary research on potential M&A opportunities and strategic partnerships
  • Support due diligence efforts and analysis of new business initiatives

 

4.    Presentation & report preparation

  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations and briefing materials for senior stakeholders
  • Assist in drafting corporate strategy documents and proposal papers

 

5.    Project coordination

  • Assist in tracking strategic initiatives and coordinating with internal teams
  • Provide administrative and organizational support for ongoing projects

 

Knowledge and Skills requirements:

 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (financial modeling, data analysis) and PowerPoint (presentation structuring and design)
  • Strong research abilities, with a keen interest in capital markets, corporate strategy, and financial services
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise summaries
  • Self-starter with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Prior internship experience in consulting, investment banking, corporate finance, or related fields is a plus
