Research

Short overview on the Unit/Team
The Research team in the Equities – Securities unit is responsible for research content generation on the Singapore equities market, distribution to engage investors and market participants, and developing/building the local research ecosystem.

Job Description

  • Assist the research team in data preparation/analysis, compiling, writing and presenting research information in reports/presentations
  • Preparation of market updates, investment-related reports, newsletters, presentation decks
  • Content distribution across various retail and institutional platforms (e.g. Bloomberg, Factset) and uploading of reports to the Research webpage
  • Maintain databases of industry/economic data
  • Analyse and assist team in internal tracking statistics, and manage distribution platforms
  • Bring a highly valued fresh perspective to our team and will be encouraged to openly communicate and contribute to content direction and discussions
  • Assist the research team on specific research projects


Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Research (ESG)

Short overview on the Unit/Team
The Research team in the Equities - Securities unit is responsible for research content generation on the Singapore equities market, distribution to engage investors and market participants, and developing/building the local research ecosystem.

Aside to content generation, the Research team is also responsible for the newly launched SGX ESG Disclosure Platform and SGX Core ESG Metrics which will support companies in their ESG disclosure journey by enabling companies to report metrics aligned with global standards and frameworks and ensuring regulatory compliance that meets investor needs for consistent and comparable ESG data.

Job Description

  • Support the team in GEM project management, driving implementation and adoption of the GEM Disclosure Platform, realizing downstream activities and KPIs.
  • Work with the team on GEM capability building for the broader Singapore market through marketing, outreach and education initiatives.
  • Organize events, webinars, forums for the ecosystem to promote the use of the platform and GEM metrics
  • Creation of insights and dashboards for analytics
  • With exposure to Equities Research as well, the intern will have opportunities to work with the research team data preparation/analysis, compiling, writing research reports and presenting research information in reports/presentations

Digital and Depository Services

Short overview on the Unit/Team
The Global Markets Division is responsible for growing revenue and liquidity of the entire continuum of business lines of SGX, including SGX subsidiaries. It comprises various units: Equity Securities, Equity Derivatives, Commodities, Exchange Platforms and Wholesale Markets & Platforms. 

This internship is set within the team, cutting across the Equity Securities and Exchange Platforms units, responsible for the Depository business of SGX and the development of two key platforms - one serving individual investors in the Cash Equities market (SGX Investor Portal) and the other serving institutional traders in the Derivatives market. Within the Depository business, the team oversees the planning and development of the suite of Depository products and value-added online services to increase participation in our marketplace by our listed companies, corporate and individual investors and traders as well as depository agents and brokers.

Job Description

  • Assist in the coordination of initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders, including user journey tracking, data analysis and UX design on websites & mobile app
  • Assist in defining adoption strategy for mobile app using data driven decisions
  • Support manager in operationalising and maintaining web content, marketing plans, user guides, FAQs and managing queries with internal units and vendors
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing for new feature launches
  • Assist in database and marketing budget management

  • Good communication skills (both written and spoken) in English

  • Knowledge of investing is an advantage; bonus if candidate has invested in stocks or bonds

Markets – Securities Trading

Short overview on the Unit/Team
As one of the three key business drivers of the Singapore Exchange, the Equities business unit is responsible for growing revenue and liquidity of the entire continuum of equities products cutting across cash equities and equity derivatives. The Equities-Markets function oversees the multi-million dollar revenue line encompassing the stock market - which includes listed companies & sectors, issuer-led equity products such as ETFs, Structured Warrants and Daily Leveraged Certificates, as well as the derivatives market that spans the Pan-Asian suite of equity index and single stock futures and options.

Within the Markets function, the Securities Trading team is responsible for managing the Singapore equities market portfolio by formulating tactical and long-term strategic initiatives to grow trading liquidity. The Securities Trading portfolio encompasses Stocks (i.e. Cash Equities), Depositary Receipts, and securitized products including Exchange Traded Funds, Structured Warrants and Daily Leveraged Certificates.

This is a product management role in Securities Trading. The selected intern can learn about the market structure and drivers of the Securities cash and securitized products business by working with the product managers, learning the skills and knowledge necessary to become an integral member of the team.

Selected intern will be working alongside market professionals of the Markets - Securities Trading team to learn about the market structure and mechanics of the equities market portfolio through developing a strong understanding of the business drivers and requirements. The intern will therefore be involved in providing data analytics, quantitative and statistical analysis, and reporting of relevant market data on the suite of existing and newly launched products.

Work closely with product managers to:

  • Evaluate the competitive landscape and market trends of our product suite though the collation of data from public sources and data platforms like Bloomberg Terminal.
  • Research and develop  ideas and strategies to drive trading activity for cash equities and securitized products
  • Build and maintain dashboards on Tableau and Excel to monitor business performance. Maintain and document existing big data infrastructure.
  • Generate in-depth product-specific insights via market research and data analysis.
  • Create marketing materials and educational resources to increase client engagement.
  • Support the new product lifecycle across development, launch and growth phases.


Knowledge and Skill Requirements
The incumbent should:

  • Possess intellectual curiosity for and knowledge of macroeconomics, financial markets and cash equities & derivatives instruments
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and mathematical skills, with a proactive approach to finding solutions. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills plus good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented, meticulous, but still possess the ability to multitask efficiently
  • Must be proficient in Tableau and MS Office – Word, Excel, Powerpoint 
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and computer programming is an added advantage.

Derivatives - Product Management

Short overview on the Unit/Team
Within the Markets function, the Equity Derivatives team is responsible for growing existing exchange-listed financial derivatives contracts revenue, liquidity and market share, as well as identifying and pursing opportunities to develop new revenue lines. The team is the revenue owner of SGX’s flagship equity index derivatives business which covers well known products such as the Nikkei 225, Nifty 50, FTSE China A50, FTSE Taiwan, and MSCI Singapore futures contracts. Collectively, these represent a multi-million dollar business line for SGX.
