Data, Connectivity & Indices (DCI) Internship Programme
We have available roles in the following teams:
1. Data Services (! vacancy)
2. Index Operations (1 vacancy)

Data Services

Data, Connectivity & Indices (DCI) Unit is responsible for dissemination of SGX Market Data for trading, analysis and risk evaluation (Data Services), connectivity solutions for participants access into SGX and cross connects (Connectivity Services) with other markets and creation of indices for investible products as well as calculation of bespoke indices (Index Services). The selected intern is expected to perform duties under the instruction and supervision Data Services team.

Learning Objectives:
The selected intern will be able to learn about SGX’s Market Data business of the exchange along with other soft and hard skills.
Following are the learning outcomes:

  • Understanding of Market Data business and industry
  • Understanding of Market data customer acquisition and commercial business flow
  • Understanding of Financial Ecosystem including Trading Lifecyle, Industry Participants and their role
  • Working with and developing Tableau Dashboards and Excel Macros
  • Working with Python and related technologies to process data for analytics purposes


Job Description:

The intern will support the Market Data team in executing its business plans outlined for the Financial Year. Some of the tasks will include:

  • Performing Benchmarking across various exchanges on Market Data pricing and their business performance
  • Research on new products/ licenses introduced by other exchanges
  • Preparation of Benchmark Reports and Presentations
  • Identifying prospects and customers by analysing usage data as well as trade data
  • Identifying anomalies in usage data reporting thus uncovering additional revenue opportunities
  • Maintaining existing and create new Tableau dashboards on Market Data usage Data. This also uses Python scripts to pre-process data.

There is immense scope to contribute independent ideas in this team.

  • Exposure to & understanding how to use Bloomberg terminals

  • Some coding experience in basic Excel Macro/ Python etc
  • Basic understanding of financial markets 
  • Able to manage time and multi-task 

Index Operations

The Index Operations team manages the daily activities for calculation of 1000+ thematic and custom indices for the iEdge business. This involves data management of static referential databases and dynamic market data feeds, corporate actions, and exchange holidays across global markets.  
 

Learning Objectives:
The selected intern will gain exposure to the operational framework of managing various financial datasets such as equities, futures, indices, bonds and FX; as well as specialized topics such as Active and Passive Investing, Thematic and Smart Beta strategies. 
 

Job Description:

  • Onboard: Work with the team to plan, coordinate and onboard new indices to our cloud based system
  • Development: Suggest and develop systematic solutions with the help of new technological tools, to enhance operational resiliency and scalability of daily tasks
  • Support: Help resolve any queries or issues that might arise from clients
     

Knowledge, Skills and Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of financial markets and products (must)
  • Passionate, result oriented, and good team player (must)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills (must)
  • Able to work under minimal supervision 
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good command of MS Excel (Formulas, VBA, Power Query)
