AVP - Site Reliability Engineer
Singapore, SG
BUILD MARKETS. SHAPE ECONOMIES.
At SGX Group, we create markets. We turn ideas into products and expand access to new opportunities. We are building the future of the exchange in-house: from architecture and platforms to the critical systems that power markets. The biggest decisions are still open to people who join us now.
The opportunity
The AVP, Site Reliability Engineering is a senior SRE lead accountable for the reliability, availability, scalability, and resilience of critical products and platforms. The role drives observability, automation, incident readiness, and recovery engineering to improve service performance and reduce operational toil. Working across engineering, infrastructure, and product teams, this role also leads proactive risk reduction, innovation, and continuous improvement through resilience testing, capacity optimisation, and the responsible use of available AI tools within SGX to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making.
The Site Reliability Engineering team
Site Reliability Engineering keeps the platforms behind SGX Group's business and market infrastructure available, observable, and recoverable.
The team sets the standards other engineering teams work to across service levels, error budgets, observability, incident response and automation. It works across engineering, infrastructure, security, and product, and it owns the practice as well as seen as the SME for ensuring resilience and proactive maintenance and continuous improvement of the estate.
The next phase is about establishing SRE as a discipline rather than a function, moving reliability decisions upstream into design, and reducing the manual work that currently sits behind keeping services up.
What you will do
- Reliability Engineering: Operate services against defined reliability objectives.
- Observability: Build and maintain monitoring, logging and telemetry solutions.
- Incident Management: Independently manage incident resolution and recovery activities.
- SLO / SLA Management: Operate systems against agreed SLOs and service targets.
- Automation: Develop automation to reduce operational effort and toil, utilising modern technology including agentic AI.
- Performance Engineering: Conduct performance analysis and optimisation.
- Capacity & Resilience Planning: Forecast and manage capacity for supported services.
- Cloud & Platform Operations: Independently manage cloud operational services.
- Operational Risk Management: Ensure operational controls and compliance requirements are met.
- Engineering Leadership: Coach other engineers in reliability practices.
- Agentic AI for Reliability & Operations: Use agentic AI to accelerate operational workflows such as alert triage, root-cause analysis, runbook execution support, anomaly investigation and post-incident learning, while ensuring all remediation remains validated and controlled.
- · Partner with engineering, infrastructure, security, and product teams to embed reliability by design and continuously improve service stability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
What we are looking for
Essentials
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Engineering, or Cloud Operations, with a proven track record of leading reliability initiatives in complex, high-availability enterprise environments.
- Reliability Governance: Proven experience defining and managing SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and operational risk management frameworks.
- Service Ownership & Incident Management: Hands-on experience managing the full operational lifecycle—from release readiness and capacity planning to leading major incident management, root-cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews.
- Technical Stack: Deep expertise in Kubernetes/EKS and cloud-native architectures, paired with hands-on proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and scripting (Python/Ansible).
- Observability: Strong capability in designing and operating enterprise observability suites (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, AWS CloudWatch, DataDog).
- Leadership & Collaboration: Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to champion a reliability culture, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across infrastructure, security, and product teams.
What may set you apart
- Financial Domain Expertise: Experience within highly regulated environments, preferably in financial services, market infrastructure, trading, clearing, or settlement systems.
- Advanced Automation & AI: Exposure to implementing AIOps, predictive monitoring, or agentic AI technologies for alert triage, runbook optimization, and operational automation.
- Modern Platform Practices: Familiarity with FinOps (cloud cost optimization) and platform engineering operating models.
- Professional Credentials: Active certifications in AWS, Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), or specialized SRE methodologies.
Why this role matters
You will work on technology that underpins critical market infrastructure, where reliability is not a quality attribute of the product. It is the product. When these platforms work, participants trade and capital moves. When they do not, everyone knows within seconds.
The mandate is real. You will decide what reliability means here, how it is measured, and what the organisation is willing to trade for it. The work is demanding and the practice is still being built, which is exactly where the opportunity sits. There are not many chances in a career to establish a discipline rather than inherit one.
